Homework Articles:
Directions:
1) A paper copy of the article will typically be given to you in class on Mondays. IF I am ever late in distributing the article, you can click the link below and print your own copy. Read the article thoroughly. As you are reading, complete 10 annotations using the Annotation Guidelines below. You should try to vary your annotations as much as possible. For example, try not to make all 10 annotations a challenging vocabulary word.
2) After annotating the article, your comprehension of it should be greater. You should now compose a one-page, single-spaced, handwritten essay response. The essay prompt will always be located at the end of the article.
The essay should be organized into two sections:
Section 1: A summary of the text including an introductory sentence with the name of the article and name of the author. The summary should always include a key quotation or more.
Section 2: Your opinion regarding the author's central idea, message, or argument. You can agree or disagree. You can provide evidence for or against. You can bring in your own experiences, observations, etc.
ALTERNATE OPTION:
If you are computer savvy, you may also choose to do your annotations in a Google doc and type your essay(one-page double-spaced typed) in that doc as well. You would need to submit it to Dropbox by the time your class period begins on the day it's due. Click the link below to access the article and make a copy.
IF you feel like you are having difficulty with this assignment, you can see me for an example from a former student.
